Sir,

I shall ask for your kind favour in entering this complaint in the columns of your popular daily for wider circulation with a view to drawing the attention of the competent authority to the menace of uncollected garbage that poses a real threat to our locality.

The area which I live in, is a semi-urban one under Barasat Municipality. The waste materials of houses and other refuse are not removed here regularly. They are merely dumped by the side of the road. The stench it gives out is overpowering. Moreover, this heap of garbage is the ideal breeding ground for flies and during the rains for the mosquitoes. The occurrence of enteric diseases and outbreak of malarial fever are quite common here. In spite of requests, agitations by the local people, the municipal authority remains totally inactive as ever except for making a few false vows and promises.

I do not know whom to pray for proper action but I know for certain that, if the condition persists, we have to face serious health hazards shortly.

Thanking you,

Yours truly,

Kamalika Mukherjee
