Sub: Reckless driving
Sir,
Through the columns of your esteemed daily I would like to draw your attention to the fact that reckless driving causing accidents. Over the last few years, the number of road accidents has been on the rise. Overtaking is a common phenomenon, the drivers of private buses and cars often engage themselves in overtaking one another, without caring about the safety of the passengers or pedestrians on the roads.
Over speeding is also a cause of road accidents. Potholes here and there make the road extremely bad. This bad condition of the roads adds fuel to fire. The traffic police posted at places are negligent of their duties. At times untrained drivers are given licenses randomly and this leads to an increase in the possibility of accidents.
Only imposition of fines and seizing the vehicles or licenses are not permanent solutions. The commission system for the drivers and conductors must be done away with as early as possible.
